[Poor Little Dolly] (A breakoff of a story)

Rina never knew when to stop talking, but that’s what I loved about her. She could keep me company for years and I wouldn’t have to say a word. I loved every word, phrase and syllable that left her lips. I loved it so much that analyzing what she said was all I knew how to do. And when she wrote me poems….it drove me crazy. I’m a lover of words, a lover of language so when Rina was with me everything was perfect. Or so….I thought.

(Darien walks along the beach, a notebook filled with Rina’s poems in his hands)

Darien: God, could she get anymore talented? (Darien says to himself as he reads more, but this time aloud) If love could never die, and you could stay here forever. I would vow to never lie about our secret endeavors. (He finishes and looks at the lake; sorrow brimming his broken heart.) How could she do that to me? How could she fucking leave me? I hate her. I hate you, Rina. No..I love you, Rina. No….I don’t know.

(As Darien paces the sand, a familiar figure approaches him. Darien looks up)

Rina: Hi, Darien….could I….could I sit with you? (Her eyes never meet his)

Darien: Does it look like I’m sitting? (Darien turns to face the lake again)

Rina: Darien…What did I do to make you hate me? What did I say----

Darien: (Darien cuts her off and hatefully laughs at her) Ha! My darling, what DIDN’T YOU SAY?

Rina: (Tears fill her eyes) Darien, I’m serious! What did I do? Just tell me..I’ll change it. Whatever it is, just tell me. (Rina goes to touch Dariens face. Darien grabs her hand and throws it down.)

Darien: Do not touch me. (Darien turns to walk away)

Rina: (Crying) Darien, stop, wait! Just tell me, what did I do? Darien….(Rina then looks in his hands and recognizes her notebook) Hey! Where did you get my notebook? How did you get it? (Darien continues to walk) Darien, give it back! If you’re leaving me you can’t have it!

Darien: (Stops dead in his tracks) ME!!!! (Darien pivots in reverse to meet Rina’s eyes) You’re trying to say that I left YOU? You’re pitiful. You’re a joke. Oh and you want your notebook back, well then go get it. (Smiling, Darien turns to face the lake and chucks Rina’s notebook into the lake) Hahaha, you can have it now. THAT and ALL those words you’ve said to all your other boyfriends. Go on, get it girl.

(Rina stares into the lake. She stares at her notebook, her hearts words; now sinking to the bottom. Now ruined. Rina begins to cry then laugh then cry)

Rina: How could you do that, Darien? How could you do that to me? You know how hard I worked on those.

Darien: You know, sweetie. I just couldn’t care less. (Darien turns his back on her, then faces her again) Oh, and two things before I go: One: You had better watch your back tonight. Two: Save your tears…you’re gonna need them to quest your thirst when you’re in hell, darling. (Leaning down to kiss Rina; Rina slaps him in the face)

Rina: Don’t you dare kiss me, you animal. (Rina turns and starts running the other way)

Darien: (Calling at her) You’re gonna regret that, Rina! Oh how you’ll regret EVER hurting me!

(Darien watches Rina run down the beach. He starts to laugh uncontrollably as he watches the last streetlight come on)

Darien: Now, girl. You will be my rag doll AND you won’t say one word ever again. I’ll teach you to have such a big mouth. (Darien smiles at this thought and starts running after Rina)

(The scene switches over to Rina in her bedroom, Crying)

Rina:(Talking to herself) I hate him…how could he do this to me? Why is he so mad at me? I just don’t know what I did….(Rina begins to cry more) I’ll take a bath maybe then I will feel better.

(Rina goes into the bathroom and adjusts the water, then walks back into her bedroom to open the window)

Rina: Ah, that’s better. It’s so nice outside (Rina hangs out the window for a moment; enjoying the summer breeze then brings her head back in and walks into the bathroom. She lights a candles, places it on the sink and switches off the lights. As Rina sinks into the bath she begins to close her eyes and hums to herself)

(Rina is jolted back to reality when she hears a crash in her room)

Rina: Mom? Are you okay? Is that you? (No answer) Moooooooommmmmmm? Hello?

(Rina sits up and peeks through the crack in the door)

Rina: Hello? (No answer) Hmph. Oh well.

(Rina relaxes again, closing her eyes. Suddenly she feels a hand over her mouth. She struggles in the bath. She can barely open her eyes to see the dark figure looming over her life. Rina attempts to scream, but the figure grabs her throat. Then all turns black in Rina’s world)

(The scene switches over to a news reporter outside of a local home)

News reporter: Well, there you have it folks. The murder of the century here in this small town. A young woman by the name of Rina was discovered by her parents in her bathtub. The police say that the girl was found in a tub, not filled with water but filled with blood with her lips sewn shut with what seemed to be a regular thread and needle. This sickening scene was only thought to be found in horror movies, but apparently that is not the case for this poor girl. This is by far the worst murder this country has seen. To conclude my story, there was a badly water damaged notebook found at the scene. There are many traces of blood on it. Here’s a picture:(the screen displays Rina’s notebook) If anyone has any information about this then please contact the authorities immediately. Thank you; I am Lydia Breaken with Channel 4 News. Have a great night.
