Annabel was not the kind of girl to voice her opinions. She was more like the kind of girl who kept those emotional energies to herself. No one would understand them if she unleashed them. So ever since she could think for herself, she hadn’t said too much to her parents. She knew they were evil; they never wanted her to be happy. Ever. That’s why they took Adam away.
(Annabel stands outside her new house; the grass mushy under her feet. She brings her face up to the second story and eyes a window. Her eyes grow wide as she stares into the eyes of a boy: Adam.)
Annabel: Adam! Adam! (She waves frantically, trying to get his attention, but he does not see. She runs up the porch and opens the door; stopping. Annabel looks around her new house; the furniture and endless piles of boxes are the only sight.)
Annabel’s Mother: (grabbing her daughters shoulder) so… what do you think? Do you like it?
Annabel: (Annabel shrugs away from her mother’s grip to turn and look her in the face) No.
Annabel’s Mother: Excuse me, young lady? We did all of this FOR YOU. So you can be away from that putrid boy. (Annabel’s mother spits her words out like fire balls)
Annabel: (Annabel stares into the face of her mother; the evil) I hate you. (Annabel runs up the stairs, slipping halfway up the stairs)
(Annabel wonders all over the house, looking in every room; searching for the room she saw her Adam in. Annabel walks into the last room she has to search. It’s empty except for a few pieces of paper on the floor. She walks into the closet to find a hidden staircase.)
Annabel: What the heck? Hello? (Annabel calls up the stairs. A cold rush of winds zips passed her face; slamming the entry to the room. Annabel looks behind her and backs away from the closet.) Hello? Who’s there? Mom?
Strange Voice: (whispering) Annabel….Annabel….come here Annabel
Annabel: Who are you? (Annabel inches closer to the closet) Hello? Hello? Answer me! Who are you?
Strange voice: (very faintly, very quietly whispers) a….d….a…..mmmmm.
(Suddenly a gust of wind comes out of nowhere, so strong it pushes Annabel into the closet, shutting the door behind her)
Annabel: Hey! Hey! Let me out! Who’s out there? Dad, this isn’t funny. LET ME OUT! Dad? Dad? Ugh! (Annabel bangs on the door, but no one comes to her rescue. Trapped in the darkness she has nowhere to go)
Strange Voice: (whispering) Annabel, it’s me Adam. Come up here, I’m so lonely.
Annabel: (Feeling for the steps Annabel makes her way up) Adam? Adam? Where are you? How the heck did you get here? Adam?
(Annabel reaches the top of the stairs to find a faintly illuminated room; the only light comes from the small window that she saw Adam standing in. The room is filled with boxes and smells of decay)
Annabel: EW! (Annabel grabs her nose to stop the smell) Adam? This isn’t funny. If my parents find out you’re here, they’ll send me away. Come on, let’s get out of here, it smells sick. Adam? Adam, seriously?
(Annabel paces the room, looking in every corner, behind every box.)
Annabel: Adam, this isn’t funny anymore. I’m scared. (Annabel holds herself)
Strange Voice: (whispers) don’t be scared, Annie. It’s me, Adam. Over here…by the window.
(Annabel walks over to the window and peers out. Ahead of her lies the second story roof. Annabel sees Adam standing on the edge of the roof, his back facing her.)
Annabel: Adam! Adam! Get down from there! Adam! (Annabel tries to pry open the window, her hands slipping on the lock with fear.) Adam! Please, don’t! I love you! Adam! Adam! (Annabel now starts to cry as she finally gets the window open. She throws herself on the roof and freezes as she hears a cracking sound.) Adam…. (Annabel’s voice now shaken with fear.)
(Adam turns to face Annabel, his being teetering on the edge. He stretches his hand out to Annabel.)
Strange Voice: (whispers) Grab my hand, Annabel. I’ll take you away.
(Annabel looks around trying to decipher the voice. For it is not coming from this Adam standing in front of her. The Adam then speaks..)
Adam: Come here, Annabel. Save me, don’t you love me? (He stares intensely at her.)
Annabel: Yes. I love you. (Annabel crouches, steadying herself on the tiles of the roof. Annabel crawls to Adam, reaching out to grab his hand. Just as she reaches one last time Annabel grabs nothing but air. She watches as her hand passes through his. She freezes, looking up at Adam who now has an evil grin on his face.)
Annabel:…A-A-A-dam….?
Adam: (He laughs at her) Hahahahaha, no, dear. Not your Adam.
(Another sudden gust of wind comes from the sky jerking Annabel right and left. Annabel screams and flails her arms. The wind is much too strong so she struggles until she falls off the second story roof, hitting the mushy grass below her and breaking her neck. The Adam disappears into thin air, the window locks itself and all is quiet now at Annabel’s house.)
(A light breeze picks up carrying a message from another world.)
Strange Voice: (whispers) I love you too, Annabel.
